Alumni Chapter of Greater Washington, DC (AUPDC)

President's Message

My dear fellow alumni:

It is a great pleasure to introduce the first quarterly newsletter of the AUP Alumni Chapter of the Greater Washington, DC Area! This newsletter seeks to give voice to alumni in the area by providing topical news and information and highlights from AUP. You will also see a calendar of upcoming events either organized by our Chapter or related to the French culture we enjoyed together in Paris. We encourage you to get involved and to give input, and maybe share what is news with you, too. It never ceases to amaze me what a wonderfully interesting, varied, and global community we are.

The alumni who planned and enjoyed events together over the last two years share a vision which I hope is shared by all of you. Our objective is to build on the special experience of AUP and to recreate in some small way the unique community we enjoyed there. Just as important, we want to have fun doing all this and in the long run support the University that gave us the chance to be part of this small yet unique set of individuals.

We've already accomplished a great many things as a Chapter:

  • Many of us get together regularly at French restaurants in the area and at occasional special events, such as last year's Bastille Day picnic. (We would love to have you join us!)
  • We have organized to bring you a lasting Chapter (non-profit incorporation in 2006 and bylaws drafted in early March 2007).
  • We are exploring ways to add value for our local AUP community.
  • We are currently organizing groups to address communications, membership, and events.

We will add other areas as we mature, such as fundraising, and various program foci. For example, we are looking to expand an internship opportunity program for AUP students. This is all while enjoying the great social events and interaction with AUP! Please plan to be a part of it and make it your Chapter!

Sincerely yours,
Peggy Montgomery
Interim President, AUP Alumni Chapter of the Greater Washington, DC Area

Letter from Washington Area Alumni to the AUP President and Board of Trustees
The current AUP leadership has been especially creative in its effort to transform the school from a globally focused liberal arts college into a small world university of the first rank. Key elements of this initiative include partnerships with major institutions like New York University and the decision to establish a new campus on the Ile Seguin. Recognizing the challenge that such a move entails, in January several Washington area alumni sent the following letter of encouragement and support to President della Paolera and the Board of Trustees.
