Fundraising Event to Benefit the Victims of the Earthquake in Haïti
Monday, February 1, 2009, 6:30pm - 8:30pm

L'Alliance Française de Washington, in partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, is hosting a fundraiser to assist victims of the recent earthquake in Haïti. Médecins Sans Frontières has been instrumental in providing urgently needed medical treatment to the thousands of people injured in the January 12 disaster.
Please join fellow alumni at this fundraiser. Peggy Montgomery, Judith Ogilvie, and other members of the AUPDC chapter will be there and will look for fellow alumns. You can coordinate with Peggy at . We think especially of those AUP alumni involved in the effort in Haïti. Come support them by your presence. Former AUPDC Treasurer, Robert Poccia, who lives and works in Haïti, sends this message:

"As a message to fellow alumni, I would just say to keep Haïti in your thoughts. The devastation here is going to take decades from which to fully recover. The damage goes well beyond the capital Port-au-Prince into neighboring cities such as Gressier, Petit Goave, Leogane and Jacmel. There has been a lot of talk in the media about the slow response to the disaster. Day by day, the relief effort is becoming better coordinated between the UN, OCHA, the NGOs and mayoral offices. Once full coordination is in effect, supplies and support will be needed. For now, it's best to let the on-the-ground organizations work out their logistical issues to better face this enormous challenge."

For details about this fundraising event, to RSVP, and to donate to this important cause, go to the Alliance Française event page and click the link to the Doctors Without Borders website. Reservations are accepted only through this link. The link has an embedded code that tracks donations made from this specific fundraiser. Consider it as your reservation. The minimum requested donation is $25, but please donate more if you can. 100% tax deductible.

About AUPDC
The AUP Greater Washington, DC Area Alumni Chapter was established to provide a structure through which the several hundred AUP Alumni who live in the vicinity could support their alma mater. The formation of the chapter was initiated through the efforts of alumni volunteers and has taken place in interaction and consultation with the AUP Office of Alumni Affairs.

The alumni who plan and enjoy events together share a vision that we hope is shared by all of you. Our objective is to build on the special experience of AUP and to recreate in some small way the unique community we enjoyed there. Just as important, we want to have fun doing all this and in the long run support the University that gave us the chance to be part of this small yet unique set of individuals.

The Chapter is also looking into other areas, such as fundraising, and various program foci. For example, we are looking to expand an internship opportunity program for AUP students. This is all while enjoying the great social events and interaction with AUP. Please plan to be a part of it and make it your Chapter.

For more information about the Chapter, and to express your ideas about the ways that we can expand (or have fun), contact Peggy Montgomery, Chapter President, at .
